By similar, though not statistically insignificant margins, Metro voters beat back dual efforts to increase term limits from two to three and a connected effort to decrease the size of the uniquely large Metro Council.
Amendment One - which would have raised term limits from two to three - was defeated by a handy 63-37 percent margin. Amendment 2 - which would have done the same thing term limit wise while also shrinking the council to 27 members from 40 - was 62-38. There was basically a 900-vote difference in yeses on the two measures.
Councilmember Emily Evans - the major proponent behind Amendment 2 - suggested term limits was what held back the council shrinkage effort though with such an overwhelming no vote it's hard to believe a path to passage was to be had.
