Music City Loop tunnel route

A map of the Music City Loop tunnel route proposed by The Boring Company

Images and a few details of the route planned for the future Music City Loop have been released.

Elon Musk’s The Boring Company shared the details of the proposed project at a recent meeting of the Nashville Convention Center Authority, with the effort to include a possible tunnel station below the Music City Center, according to multiple media reports.

A map, according to the Nashville Business Journal, labels a tunnel terminus to be located near the Tennessee State Capitol, seemingly at the Rosa L. Parks Boulevard parking lot where The Boring Company has begun preliminary work.

As currently proposed, the future tunnel route would run underneath Rosa L. Parks Boulevard, Eighth Avenue South, the roundabout at Music City Center and Lafayette Street. The latter transitions into Murfreesboro Pike, with the tunnel placed below that street and onto to Donelson Pike and then the Nashville International Airport (as the eastern terminus of the route).

Most of the tunnel route would be physically positioned under roadways the state controls.

At 9.5 miles one way, the full Music City Loop (two tunnels positioned parallel to one another) would comprise about 19 miles of tunnel. NBJ reports The Boring Company can tunnel roughly one mile per month.

Last week, the executive subcommittee of the State Building Commission approved a temporary lease for Elon Musk’s The Boring Company to use the aforementioned state-owned 0.8-acre lot at 637 Rosa L. Parks Blvd. to manage construction operations and create a site where a tunnel-boring machine can be launched.

Democratic state lawmakers and Nashville residents have expressed concerns related to the project, including the unknown environmental impact and potential for flooding or collapse. Many have criticized the state for not including Metro in the discussions with The Boring Company.
