As families prepare to send their children back to school, Metro Nashville Public Schools are providing a handful of opportunities to get rising seventh-graders (or any student 12 or older) caught up with their vaccinations. These events come from a partnership with MNPS, Neighborhood Health, Metro Health Department and the Nashville Diaper Connection.
According to the Nashville Health Department, the only immunization that incoming seventh-graders are required to have is the tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis (TDAP) booster, on top of the various immunizations that are required upon entering MNPS as a kindergartner or new student. Required immunizations include hepatitis A and B, poliomyelitis, measles, mumps, rubella and more. The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine will be available for students who are eligible (those 12 and up), but it is not required. Families can also provide medical or religious documentation that exempts students from receiving immunizations.
Families must bring their children’s vaccination records or Tennessee Immunization Information System documentation, but Neighborhood Health can also look up student records in the TennIIS registry as needed. Those who aren’t up to date with their immunizations will get help scheduling necessary vaccinations at local clinics, as well as appointments for physicals.
The Nashville Diaper Connection will distribute free food and diaper boxes at each event.
