Ron Ramsey is either high as a kite, or he's not talking about people in Tennessee, because we keep trying to make change happen an inch at a time — like, say, allowing kids to hear that gay people exist, or making sure no one who does business with the city should be able to discriminate against their employees — and we keep getting squashed like bugs.

I would assert that the things liberals have made the most headway on in this country are not actually explicitly liberal values. You don't have to be a liberal to believe that a person should be able to marry the person he or she loves. You don't have to be a liberal to think that people should be paid the same for the same work. There's nothing particularly liberal about looking at the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence and believing it's talking about you — your rights and your political power.
Believing in the promise of America isn't just a liberal thing.
