When Lincoln Davis was in the state legislature, the wags of the Capitol Hill press corps called him Foghorn Leghorn. You remember the Looney Tunes character who babbled meaninglessly nonstop. ("That's a joke.... I say, that's a joke, son.") Finally, we've found something the loquacious Davis doesn't want to talk about. Asked in Nashville about the flap involving his top aide, Beecher Frasier, and the backwoods rube Fred Hobbs, who both seemed to think at one point last week that Barack Obama is tied to terrorists, and Harold Ford Jr., who denounced Frasier over it, here's what Davis had to say: “God Bless Harold Ford Jr. Bless his little heart.” Here's more:
Asked about his failure to endorse Obama, Davis avoided a direct answer, declaring at one point that he preferred to talk about fishing and briefly recounting a trip to “the old Mill Pond” with his grandchildren where they caught “red-eye bass.” Eventually, he added: “I’ll answer your question. I’m not endorsing John McCain.” He declined to elaborate.
