With an almighty 64 God-fearing Republicans in the House, Christian conservatives now boast the power to run rampant over state government.
In a post-election message, the Family Action Council's David Fowler exhorts his disciples to go to war against the liberal agenda, wherever it may pop up. Fowler, who is Tennessee's answer to James Dobson, issues two warnings:
First, in 1994 we saw Republicans swept into office at the federal level, and they then lost their way. Twelve years later they were shown the door. State Republican leaders need to remember that and heed the lessons from it. But we need to help them with their “lessons.” We need to be even more vigilant to make sure they don’t lose their way.
And second, now that the Christian Right runs state government (along with the NRA, of course) those slippery liberals will find new targets for their devilment:
Because conservatives do control the state legislature, you can expect the battle for the liberal agenda to now shift to the local governmental level.
