A new video with unknown origins uses a fox mascot and R.E.M.'s "Everybody Hurts" to mock David Fox's losing mayoral campaign.

After finishing second in the general election, Fox lost by 10 points to Megan Barry in this month's runoff election. The video is titled "Whatever Happened to The Fox: A Film Eulogy for Dirty Texas-Style Politics in Nashville."

Here it is:

A Film Eulogy of Dirty, Texas-Style Politics in Nashville

The fox is a slightly different one than the one that appeared in David Fox's campaign ads and with him on the campaign trail. As you'll see, the fox is seen riding around in a bus, sleeping on a bench, finding himself unwelcome at a Tennessee Unemployment Office, sadly knocking on the locked doors of the Metro Courthouse, and even being rejected by someone in a black SUV resembling the one Fox used to drive in his campaign commercials. The video gives credit to "George Fox and Citizen Super PAC" — Fox's brother and the Super PAC he funded to support the Fox campaign — for its production. That's obviously not the case. But who is behind the video? Some folks on Twitter are openly speculating, but we'll try to see if we can find out for you. Although, admittedly, we probably won't spend as much time investigating it as someone did filming this.
