A fictional troublemaker and a real-life one highlight this month's listing of Nashville's top home sales.
The Oak Hill contemporary that served as the backdrop for the Season 1 machinations of Hayden Panettiere's id-like country starlet Juliette Barnes sold in real life months after it sold on TV.
And the Green Hills home that was James Franklin's home base while he was the most popular man on West End sells just a few months after he became one of the most reviled men on West End.
As always, what follows are the Top 10 home sales in Davidson and surrounding counties for February, ranked by price:
1. 1662 Jacobs Drive, Gallatin, 37066
Buyer: Mary V. Slawek
Sell price: $2.3 million
Seller: Theresa Mary Peyton
Seller's agent: Peggy St. Peters, Coldwell Banker Lakeside
Buyer's agent: Danielle Hasley, Village Real Estate Services
This 7,500-square-foot, six-bedroom home in Fairvue Plantation promises views of "herons perching, ducks swimming, and fish jumping" visible from "most rooms." The master bath features heated floors and toilet seat, and the home is fully wired with a state-of-the art sound system (plus a soundproofed master bedroom, in case the new owner doesn't like the music played elsewhere in the house).
2. 44 Governors Way, Brentwood, 37027
Buyers: Erwin F. and Linda J. Workman
Sell price: $2.25 million
Seller: Brent Rowan
Seller's agents: Bill E. Henson Jr., SilverPointe Properties, and Candie Worsham, Nashville Area Homes
Buyers' agent: Shawn Hackett, Music City Realtors
This Governors Club home has a "gorgeous view of the 18th tee box" and is therefore within walking distance of the tony golf course's well-appointed clubhouse. The 12,000-square-foot home includes an 1,100-square-foot recording studio. The listing promises this is a short sale, but how short is hard to say. The home is appraised at $2.5 million, but seller Rowan — a well-known session musician and former Academy of Country Music Guitarist of the Year — bought the lot for far less ($360,000 or so); he presumably spent beaucoup bucks building the home itself.
Erwin Workman is a former executive president, COO and chief science officer at veterinary diagnostic company Idexx Laboratories.
3. 580 Jackson Blvd., Belle Meade, 37205
Buyers: David V. and Donna M. Mastran
Sell Price: $2.15 million
Seller: Sally Coble
Seller's agents: Betty Finucane and Elaine B. Finucane, Fridrich & Clark Realty
Buyers' agent: Betty Finucane, Fridrich & Clark Realty
Built in 1958, this 5,900-square-foot Belle Meade classic sits on nearly 3 acres. The home has a grand 32-foot entrance hall with 16-foot ceilings, and the property includes an historic barn, pool and six-car parking.
David Mastran is the owner and co-creater of QuaverMusic.com, which provides online tools that allow music education teachers and students to create their own music.
Sally Coble, the seller of record, is the wife of Neely Coble.
4. 917 Overton Lea Road, Oak Hill, 37220
Buyer: T. Powell Hedley
Sell price: $1.828 million
Seller: Louise P. Salmon
Seller's agent: Richard B. French, French King Fine Properties
Buyer's agent: Beth Molteni, Fridrich & Clark Realty
Neither the buyer nor seller of this home is its most famous occupant. The 5,300-square-foot contemporary served as the home of troubled ingenue Juliette Barnes on ABC's Nashville during the show's first season.
It offers views of downtown through walls of glass, and the three-acre property features an infinity pool.
Hedley — befitting the home's fictional lineage, perhaps — is the director of public relations at Webster & Associates PR & Marketing, a firm with numerous country music clients.
5. 6212 Robin Hill Road, Nashville, 37205
Buyers: David A. Taylor and Linda K. Whitley-Taylor
Sell price: $1.55 million
Seller: Cronin Wood Investments
Seller's agent: Amy Smith, Worth Properties
Buyers' agent: Jack S. Miller, Parks
Built in 2008, this home's listing promises that it surpasses the craftsmanship of most new construction, as if one should expect a six-year-old home to be some kind of run-down hovel — which this 7,500-square-foot house most certainly is not.
Cronin Wood is an investment company of Michael Cronin, owner of an eponymous recording-studio construction company.
Mrs. Whitley-Taylor was appointed executive vice-president and chief human resources officer of Emdeon in December, coming over from a similar position at Amerigroup.
6. 3309 Skyline Drive, Nashville, 37205
Buyers: Richard D. and Debbra L. Rehm
Sell price: $1.3 million
Sellers: James and Funmilayo Franklin
Sellers' agent: Anne A. McGugin, Fridrich & Clark Realty
Buyers' agent: Linda Stone, Zeitlin & Co. Realtors
Spurned Vanderbilt fans hoping for a good dose of schadenfreude won't get it from real estate.
Former football head coach James Franklin was able to sell his home relatively quickly — you may have seen the repeated visits of the Penn State semi-truck that helped him move — and actually turned a profit, albeit a paltry one of around $140,000.
In a delicious bit of Vanderbilt history, Franklin's agent Anne McGugin is married to George McGugin — grandson of Dan McGugin, Vanderbilt's all-time winningest coach.
7. 2708 Brightwood Ave., Nashville, 37212
Buyer: MSH Family Partnership
Sell price: $1.169 million
Sellers: Michael L. and Julie Thomas
Sellers' agent: Richard F. Bryan, Fridrich & Clark Realty
Buyer's agent: Gretchen Jolly, Benchmark Realty
A new construction that looks like it has some history, this 5,800-square-foot Belmont-area home has two playrooms and what the listing says is a "huge yard," even though the entire property is only a third of an acre.
The buyer represents Nashville real estate agent Mark S. Hamilton.
8. 1004 Park Crest Court, Brentwood, 37027
Buyer: 1004 Park Crest Court Trust, William T. Chapman IV, trustee
Sell price: $1,047,500
Seller: McPherson-Shaw Inc.
Seller's agent: Linda Seaton, Benchmark Realty
Buyer's agent: Karen Morgan, Karen Morgan Realty
Oh, Bill Chapman, the bane of the snoop's existence. The trustee once again writes a watertight lockbox of a trust, leaving the buyer of this "European-style" home in Brentwood's Preserve at Concord unknown.
Whoever it is will enjoy both the indoor cook's kitchen and the outdoor kitchen and fireplace under the covered porch.
9. 315 Berry Circle, Franklin, 37064
Buyer: Reda A. Witherow
Sell price: $1,005,825
Seller: Carbine & Associates
Seller's agent: Danny R. Anderson, Bob Parks Realty
Buyer's agent: Sharon Alexander, Realty Trust Residential
Another faux-historic home, this time in the subdivision designated as Historic Franklin in historic Franklin.
The stone and brick Tudor has hardwoods throughout and three fireplaces with each of the four bedrooms having a private bath. Plus the spacious living room opens to a covered veranda!
10. 5541 Hawks Landing Drive, Franklin, 37064
Buyers: Mark and Amy Montoney
Sell price: $1 million
Seller: Zuckerman Family Trust
Seller's agent: Tim Thompson, Tim Thompson Premier
Buyer's agent: Brian Swain, Benchmark Realty
What the 5,375 official square feet of this home doesn't include is the 3,102-square-foot "daylight basement," of which the listing is particularly proud.
The actual living area of the house has exposed beams, wainscoting, paneled den and barrel ceilings. Outside, there's a security gate and a porte-cochere (a fancy French word for "carport").
Buyer Mark Montoney is an M.D. and MBA and chief medical officer at Tenet Healthcare.
