In honor of Franè°©s Truffaut's The 400 Blows, starting a weekend run tomorrow night at the Belcourt, here's a mighty cool artifact: child actor Jean-Pierre Leaud's screen test, taken from the Criterion DVD along with tests for Leaud with co-star Patrick Auffay and another for Richard Kanayan. Screen tests are interesting in themselves, mostly for the visible shifts from actor to character, but Leaud is already pretty much indistinguishable from Truffaut's juvenile hero Antoine. Can't wait to see the movie again.
