So long as we're picking on WSMV-Channel 4, let's take a long (and uncomfortable) trip down memory lane: Our first stop is a vibrant and completely undated newscast from 1992. It's a shame that Jennifer Aniston and not Sharon Puckett defined the defacto hairstyle of the ’90s. It’s Rivergate meets Hendersonville meets Billy Ray. Incidentally, this is how our editor wore her hair until 2004. As it turns out, 1992 was a cultural high water mark with Nirvana, the Smashing Pumpkins and, of course, WSMV, capturing the angst and yearning of Generation X. Finally, let's finish on a rather reflective, inspirational note with WSMV's 1986 signature hit “Hello Nashville”: This wound up serving as the template for Michael W. Smith's recording career and as the wedding song for our own Jim Ridley.
