Federal authorities executed a search warrant involving a Metro employee on Wednesday. 

"We are aware that there is an investigation ongoing of a Metro employee," says Alex Apple, spokesperson for Mayor Freddie O'Connell. "He is on administrative leave. Our Department of Law advised him that he would not be represented by the Department of Law and should retain counsel."

He referred further questions to the U.S. Attorney's Office, a representative for which tells the Banner that a search warrant was executed on Wednesday but that further information could not be shared due to the ongoing investigation. 

Apple additionally confirms that John Honeysucker, a longtime official with Metro Water Services, is on administrative leave.

A source familiar with the investigation describes Metro as a "victim" of in the alleged wrongdoing being investigated.
