SouthComm announced on Thursday it will cut make cuts to its Nashville publications' editorial, sales and creative staffs, along with its corporate staff.
Among the cuts is Nashville Scene editor Steve Cavendish, who took over in the position after the death of Jim Ridley in 2016. Cavendish has been with SouthComm since 2011 and also has served as the Scene’s news editor and Washington City Paper’s editor. Also among the cuts is arts editor Laura Hutson, who has held that position since 2011. Taking over in the role of editor will be D. Patrick Rodgers, who has been with the Scene full time since 2008, serving as calendar editor, music editor and, since 2014, managing editor.
“SouthComm is in the midst of a changing of a guard, at all levels of the organization,” said CFO Bob Mahoney. “This announcement is neither the first nor will it be the last. What is not changing is the mission of SouthComm here in Nashville: to provide a variety of first-rate publications tailored to different interests, to provide our readers high-quality, reliable and relevant content, and to provide our advertisers new and creative access to our dynamic city.”
These changes come on the heels of SouthComm founder Chris Ferrell’s departure earlier this month.
