I put it in my younger, angstier days, I don't really think it matters which one you say. Anyway, posting around these parts is going to be a little light this week — we're out tomorrow and Christmas Day, and we'll return on Thursday. But before we dip out and get our nog on, it looks as though some of the locals are feeling that Christmas spirit. Let's watch and hear Christmas covers and originals from the local set.
* The East Side's Electric Western — the "record label and musical event company" behind things like the Keep on Movin' dance parties and upcoming NYE show at The 5 Spot — recently took over an installment of Music City Roots, with performances from EW artists Derek Hoke, Steelism, Andrew Combs and Los Colognes. The boys pulled off some appropriately rootsy renditions of Christmas standards. Let's start off with Steelism's take on "Linus and Lucy." Totally adorable. Watch that above.
* Fellow Electric Westerner Derek Hoke played a wonderfully breezy rendition of "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town." Watch that one above.
* Andrew Combs, keeping it traditional, took on "Silver Bells." Spencer Cullum Jr. on the talk-box kinda steals the show though, don't you think?
* Jammy roots rockers Los Colognes pull off a pleasant little "Feliz Navidad" above.
* Local hip-hop producer Caveman the Wise has a chilled-out, instrumental number by the name of "Little Christmas Tree," and you can stream that above or download it for free via
Soundcloud. (I'm fairly certain the "little Christmas tree" is just a nug of weed, by the way.)
* The Young International keep it especially traditional with "O Come Emmanuel" — with an assist from the talented Ruby Amanfu.
* And finally, The Smoking Flowers get a little cheeky with their holiday original, "A Bow and Nothing More." They even have a brand-new Davis Adams-directed video (see it above). Innuendo is slathered on there a little thick. Enjoy!
