Tennessee really messed with Texas last week. If you've read my colleagues' mounting
SXSW2011 recaps then you know that local rock faves the likes of JEFF the Brotherhood, Tristen,Turbo Fruits, Caitlin Rose, PUJOL, The Clutters and many, many more were reppin' Nashville in Austin harder than Brett Favre's cock in a text message. While that's really not unusual at this annual, veritable industry trade show, SXSW this year really was as a good an indicator as any that our little river town is producing some of the most vital music in the contemporary independent landscape.
Normally, at out-of-town festivals, I don't go out of my way to see bands that I can catch on almost any given weekend, but in Austin, Nashville was ubiquitous, and I found myself seeing familiar faces onstage at shows I would've likely found myself at anyway with impressive regularity. And I didn't hear any other city's name get dropped as much as ours.
