The Family Wash Is Moving; Chef John Stephenson to Helm New Kitchen

East Nashville pint 'n' pie stalwart

The Family Wash

is pulling up stakes from their original location on Greenwood Avenue and moving their operations to a new larger building on Main Street near

Bolton's Spicy Chicken and Fish

. The new restaurant will be a joint venture between James Rubin, Garage Coffee's Robert Camardo, chef John Stephenson and artist manager Mitchell Fox.

Stephenson, who most recently ran the kitchen at Fido, is very excited about his new gig. "I think that area of Main Street will be the next hot spot for restaurant development." While the beloved Shepherd's Pie will still remain a mainstay of the menu, Stephenson expects to add plenty of new items from his repertoire to the offerings. Local Burger, anyone?

Since The Family Wash first opened in 2002, it has garnered a rabid following as a comfortable music venue and spot for hearty fare and cold beer. Rubin promises that any changes will be beneficial to the patrons. “Longtime fans will be happy to know we’re staying on the East Side, and that many of our signatures will remain,” said Rubin. “It’ll still be The Wash — just bigger, with more to offer. You’ll still be able to get a shepherd’s pie and a pint, but now you’ll have plenty of room to eat it and won’t have to crawl over people to get to the bar.”

The current location will close on Feb. 21, so there's still time to visit and offer your respects to the original iteration, but when the new space opens later this spring, hopefully it will be bigger and even better. With The Family Wash, Dino's, The Pharmacy Burger Parlor & Beer Garden all within a mile of each other, could this become Nashville's latest and best "Burger Triangle?"
