Feel free to call me an uneducated ass on matters both electronic and hip-hopish in nature, but did you guys know that there's something called a "
Live P.A." set, and it's completely different from a DJ set? I feel like this the sort of thing I could have utilized a lot more before now, seeing as how whenever I go to a show featuring a DJ set, I'm always wondering whether it will be a DJ of the scritch-scratch/wildin' out variety or a DJ of the "I'm going to play an awesome Mar-Keys track" variety. Over at his blog, local favorite
Quiet Entertainer put together a post on the matter, seeing as how DJ/Live P.A. confusion seems to be something of a job hazard for him:
Something odd happened at the last Mashville show. I had some fans come out to see me. After my set, they were all disappointed. One of them had brought her friends. She said, “Well I told them how awesome you were and that you had such a crazy energetic live show. But when we saw you, you were just playing records.” I was kind of taken aback. Did she not know that I was killing it? But then, I realized the problem. Normally, I don’t just DJ with records.
Anyhow, QE updates
his blogpretty regularly with insights into the electronica game; it's totally worth your time.
