You may remember that last winter, Daniel Pujol's outfit PUJOL released a video for "Manufactured Crisis Control."Â In perfect sync with the the song's themes, it featured a meta-modern monster, made up of a disorienting barrage of images compiled by the VHS mashup artists at Everything Is Terrible.
Now, check out a new collaboration between PUJOL and EIT's Commodore Gilgamesh: The "Sleepy Doni" vid is a psychedelic bedtime story of sorts, featuring a collection of bizarre twists on puppet mascots from kids' television, all singing and dancing along to an upbeat tune about shifting focus from saving the world — it's so easy to make a noble quest be about yourself, isn't it? — to healing it with a will to do good. The title character is also likely a salute to Doni Schroader, who produced PUJOL's excellent 2014 album Kludge.Â
And there's more: "Sleepy Doni" is the first track from the next PUJOL release. An eight-track EP titled Kisses features three poems and five rock tunes, and comes out on Black Friday (Nov. 27) via Bartertown, the print and audio co-op founded by Pujol and bandmate Zach Prosser. "Sleepy Doni" is also available as a three-track download (studio, full-band demo and acoustic demo of the song) in a package with a special T-shirt designed by Pujol and Alexa Sullivant; a dollar of each sale goes to the Southern Bunny Sanctuary.
