You may have heard by now, but in case you’ve been living under a rock for all of June: G-UNIT IS BACK TOGETHER!!! Back in late April,
50 Cent went on record saying that the group was still "dismantled,"but all that changed on June 1, when the original G-Unit reunited at Summer Jam 2014 with members 50 Cent, Tony Yayo, Lloyd Banks and hometown hero Young Buck, Ca$hville’s very finest.
The next day, G-Unit released a new song, "Nah I'm Talkin' Bout," a remix of HS87's "Grindin' My Whole Life." That song has a video now, and it’s just ballin’ enough to send a couple chills down your spine. The video features the Unit straight lampin’ in a warehouse, and also features G-Unit Records artist (and possibly new G-Unit member?) Kidd Kidd. Watch that above.
It was a big deal when Young Buck dropped his debut Straight Outta Cashville back in 2004 and put Nashville hip-hop on the national stage. (Do you remember where you where when you first heard “Let Me In” or “Shorty Wanna Ride”?) It was a big deal when 50 Cent released Get Rich or Die Tryin’ the year before and established G-Unit as the preeminent force in hip-hop and popular music. (Sheeeeet. Do you remember where you were when you first heard “In Da Club”?) There are plenty of classic hip-hop crews currently reuniting and becoming active again — Outkast is playing every festival that exists this year (except for Bonnaroo, argh!!), Dipset just got back together, the Wu-Tang Clan is gearing to drop two new albums. Fuck, even Mobb Deep is playing shows again! I say all that to say this …
Here’s hoping that the new G-Unit album (slated to release by late November) can rekindle some of the same magic that first made so many folks fall in love with them — it seems like the drama that erupted between Buck and 50 a few years ago (which 50 Cent read all about in the Scene) is now in the past. G-G-G G-G-G G-Unit!
