Yes! Maybe it was the psychic energy I sent along, or maybe it was the fact that I stuffed the ballot box by going to every library in the city and voting at each of their computers (Kidding! ... Maybe). Whatever it was, my favorite candidate won. As reported on Lightning 100 and passed along by a press release, that promising, forthcoming, mid-sized local venue we told you about (not
once, but
twice) officially has a name. Marathon Music Works. Who else is happy to be rid of that Pink Elephant business once and for all? From the release:
The winner for the "Name Your Venue" contest hosted by Lightning 100 was announced today during the noon hour. Marathon Music Works was voted as the name sake for Nashville's newest and locally owned mid-sized music & event space coming this Fall to the Marathon Village area. Owners say " We are thrilled that a name was chosen that honors the historical nature of the area. We feel Nashville has given the venue an iconic name that will be remembered for years to come." Marathon Motor Works was an automobile manufacturer located in the Marathon Village area between 1914-1918.
The name was submitted by
Samuel Harrison, Jon Dicus, Doyle Davis, Jody Waldrup, Joy Cobb, Jon Meade and Chris Taylor. Congrats to the Marathon folks — see how that just rolls off the tongue, or the fingertips, as the case may be? — for locking down a name. Now time to lock down
that URL.
