Each autumn since 2015, East Nashville troubadour Tim Easton has rallied a slew of outstanding local musicians to record a Bob Dylan cover to raise funds and awareness for charitable causes. Since the second run in 2016, the chosen beneficiary has been the Southern Alliance for People and Animal Welfare, or SAFPAW. The long-running nonprofit offers aid to people living at or below the poverty line or experiencing homelessness, as well as their pets. The organization has programs that help humans find housing and care they need, and it also provides a range of services for animals that include veterinary care and an adoption program.
In years past, Easton has been joined in the studio by The McCrary Sisters, Aaron Lee Tasjan, Lilly Hiatt, Brian Wright, Erin Rae and many others. As the pandemic continues to make it unsafe to gather so many folks close together in an enclosed space, Easton went solo for this year’s performance. Today, we’re very pleased to premiere the video he’s made for his lithe and mellow rendition of “Spanish Harlem Incident,” a Dylan classic about falling in love with someone and hoping to find yourself feeling at home within that relationship. Easton filmed himself tracking all the parts in his home studio. He also sends a note of thanks to the folks at Cafe Rooster Studios, where he mixed the track.
"I love the tradition of helping those who are hurting," says Easton. "I encourage everyone who reads this to reach out and help someone who is hurting today."
