See Love Conquer All in Sturgill Simpson's 'All Around You' [Fresh Vid]

Following a weekend in which his third solo album A Sailor's Guide to Earth took home the Grammy for Best Country Album, Sturgill Simpson's already-substantial platform is bigger than ever. Today, he's using it to take aim at bigotry in general and the Trump administration in particular.

The new music video for the soul-indebted "All Around You" stars a young boy, not too much older than Simpson's firstborn, who the singer is addressing throughout Sailor's Guide. In a mask and cape, the boy wanders through a bleak and lonely animated landscape until he comes across a golden ring in the shape of a heart.

As Simpson sings "Time slips away / Skies fall apart / It ain't too hard / A universal heart," the ring grows into a shield which enables the kiddo to overtake war machines, blast a hole in a wall that's holding back refugees and tear up the enormous public address system and fake fists being used by a demagogue whose silhouette bears a striking resemblance to President Trump.

Like previous videos for songs from Sailor's Guide, "All Around You" was directed Matt Mahurin. Check it out above, and look for Simpson on the festival circuit this summer, with nearby stops including Louisville's Forecastle and Birmingham's Sloss Fest.
