Local rapper Sedrick McLean, aka SeddyMac, may be a familiar face if you’ve been to open-mic cyphers around town. (A word to the wise: Dirtbike Mike’s Tuesdays! event has made a move to Springwater, and the next installment is tonight.) But the MC has a stack of tracks for you to sink your teeth into. He’s been releasing a new joint every couple of months this year via Bandcamp. One standout cut is “D÷vision,” released in April. Now he’s accompanied that with a fresh vid directed by Wesley Crutcher.
The clip takes place at what appears to be an empty drive-in theater. One camera stays tight on SeddyMac, while drone footage reveals that he’s on his own out there in the expansive landscape. This is an extension of what’s happening in the rhyme. It’s an elevated flex, in which he proclaims: “I’m sick of hearing boosted sounds / In these weaker voices / A lot of wasted air / Walking like you’re anointed.”
SeddyMac is making it clear that he’s in this for the long haul. He’s an intentional artist who has a specific vision for his music, and he doesn’t want to be associated with artificiality, as he raps: “Don’t got time for those excuses / Resolution / Execution.” That said, he’s not a lone wolf card when it comes to making music. “D÷vision” was produced by Bleaux, and he’s collaborated with several others throughout his catalog.
Check out the video above, and keep up with SeddyMac via Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. You can also catch him Wednesday at radio station 92Q. He’ll be interviewed for Deep Soul With Eboné at 5:30 p.m. — all the details are in this Instagram post.
