Mike Floss Gets Groovy in 'Freak of the Week'

Nashville, TN-

On September 5th, 2019, Nashville rapper Mike Floss released his 70’s inspired music video for track, “FOTW” (Freak Of The Week), directed by Nigel Callisto Pelligree of Altru Creative. The single, released in late 2018, garnished over 53 thousand streams (and counting) on Spotify alone. Now, nearly a year later, the quickly rising Nashville rapper put out a music video compliment.

In the FOTW video, Floss is dressed in vintage attire, performing for an audience so appropriate that if you didn’t know any better you’d think you were watching a video straight from 1974. The opening shot finds the rapper in his green room before a performance, dressed in an all white suit. Like stepping into a time machine, for the rest of the three minute spectacle you’re transported to a place of romanticized nostalgia and vintage disco attitudes. Floss is a rockstar, with several fans stopping him for a polaroid as he walks to the stage. The rapper commands the performance, backed by his very fitting, vintage-looking band. The crowd goes crazy as Floss, with his afro hairstyle and giant red sunglasses, begins his set. It’s a crazy, vivid, nostalgic 1970’s party, that will make you wish you could go back in time just to be in attendance.

It’s been two years since Mike Floss, an outstanding voice in local hip-hop, released his album Tennessee Daydreams. Since then, the rapper has appeared on a handful of collaborations (see the 3 Piece EP with Atlanta’s Jace, work with fellow stellar Nashville MC Daisha McBride and more) and dropped a very few tracks of his own.

One of those solo gems was “Freak of the Week,” which hit streaming services way back in October. A couple of weeks back, a music video for the track, directed by Nigel Callisto Pelligree of Altru Creative, hit the web, and it’s the perfect thing to help get you set up for the weekend.

In the vid, viewers are suspended between modern beats and groovy nostalgia in a ’70s house party scene. After getting his hair right, Floss rolls out of the green room into a performance that oozes coolness, from the people dancing around him, to Floss’ confident presence. At first, it might seem like a strange setting for a rap concert, but as Floss points out: “I do different things / I ain’t the type to want to be the same / Like the way I think I’m Mr. T / I need a hundred chains / Ain’t no mystery  / You come down here and they gonna speak my name.”

The next gig Floss has on the books is in Atlanta, during a one-day fest called Destination Atlanta at the Georgia Freight Depot headlined by Lil Yachty. Keep an eye on his Instagram, Facebook and Twitter profiles for more.
