2020 was a landmark year for Nashville’s growing hip-hop scene, and it’s showing no signs of slowing down in 2021. Along with the sheer volume of talented artists releasing new music, one of the most exciting qualities of Music City’s hip-hop community is the emphasis on collaboration, and few releases demonstrate that better than Get the Loot, the first full-length release from $hrames.
Get the Loot was released via Third Eye & Co., an independent organization that’s bringing together the talents of rappers like $hrames with other creators like engineer MixedbyCole and director Seck. The album features an impressive lineup of collaborations with a wide range of Nashville artists — from long-time pillars of the scene like Brian Brown and Trapperman Dale to promising up-and-comers like Jyou and Yours Truly, Jai.
$hrames’ stellar beats tie the 15 tracks together, while still leaving enough space for each featured artist to leave their mark. This release also covers a wide range of subject matter, too. There are more lighthearted songs like “Grapevine” (feat. Sonny Red) as well as “Black Dreamer,” which features a reflection on our current political climate from the unique perspective of 20-year-old singer RyAnne, whose own From RyAnne With Love just dropped.
