Grumpy Looks for Balance in 'Space Cadet' [Fresh Track]
Grumpy Looks for Balance in 'Space Cadet' [Fresh Track]

You may recall that in this week's installment of The Spin we noted how indie-rock outfit Grumpy, a Good Live Human Band, doesn't have a ton of recorded output. Contributor Elle Carroll also mentioned that bandleader Mason Schmitt & Co.'s song "Space Cadet" is easily one of their finest. If you also caught the show, here's a piece of excellent news: You can find that very song on the streaming platform of your choice – and if that platform is Bandcamp, check out the embed below.

The song follows the contours of a close relationship with candor and gentle optimism. Over the sunny, smartly orchestrated pop composition, Schmitt catalogs some of her personal qualities that might lead to occasional challenges, but she doesn't tear herself down. Ultimately, the lyrics focus on self-acceptance as the singer lays it out for her partner: “I just wanna do my best / This is what you’re in for / For the rest of this partnership / Which I hope never ends / Because I’m sometimes a mess / And when I’m with you / I feel like I’m the best.”

The track previews Loser, the band's debut LP, set for a March release via Acrophase Records. Keep up with the group on Facebook for updates on additional shows and releases.
