R rated intro of Maybe It’s Time (A Star is Born) - Eddie Vedder, Bradley Cooper, Jason Isbell
In what you might consider and homage to an homage, Eddie Vedder performed a cover of the song "Maybe It's Time" from the A Star Is Born remake during his set at the Innings Festival in Arizona on Sunday.Â
In the movie, the song is performed by Jackson Maine, Bradley Cooper's hard-living, gravelly voiced rock star, who was inspired by the Pearl Jam frontman. But the song was written for the movie by Nashville's own (formerly hard-living, still very much rocking) Jason Isbell, who was pretty excited to hear Vedder's rendition. There are layers here, folks.Â
If you want more, consider this: Cooper told Yahoo Entertainment that Vedder originally told him not to make the movie. In fairness, another remake of A Star Is Born sounds like a disaster on paper, especially considering that Cooper, a first-time director, would also be learning to sing and play guitar for the film, and unproven actor Lady Gaga would co-star. You might've heard, though, that it turned out alright. Despite the film only winning one of the eight Oscars it was nominated for, its soundtrack is a smash-hit.Â
After you watch Vedder's cover above, you can watch this (vertically shot, ugh) video of Isbell performing the song at the Ryman last year.
