Lera Lynn's appearances as a spooky, dive-bar-haunting singer on the second season of HBO's True Detective — not to mention her role collaboration with T Bone Burnett on music for the series — helped her reach a much wider audience.

By and large, her recent album Resistor helps her move beyond the association with the show, as managing editor D. Patrick Rodgers points out in his Critic's Pick on her gig Saturday, Oct. 8, at The Basement East.

But that doesn't mean she's set the darkness aside completely. Today, we're pleased to premiere a video in which Lynn and band perform "What You Done," a cut from the album filmed live at her own Resistor Studio with Robby Handley on bass, Tommy Perkinson on drums and Joshua Grange on baritone guitar. Whatever exactly it was the subject of the song did, you can bet it's something you wouldn't want to have on your conscience.

"As a songwriter, there's little in this world as fulfilling as retribution by way of a song," says Lynn in an email to the Scene. "Even if the intended recipient never hears the song, I still feast on the possibility that they might and that when they do, they'll undoubtedly know I wrote it to them. That is a powerful, deeply satisfying feeling."
