Ol' planet Earth would be a rough place indeed without friends. Even just having a buddy's ear in a tough time can mean a lot — knowing you're not alone can make a huge difference in how you handle it and ultimately, in the sage words of Ringo Starr, get by. That's the message at the center of "High St.," a cut from Daddy Issues' outstanding 2017 LP Deep Dream, which our critics voted as one of the year's best. In the song, singer-guitarist Jenna Moynihan is frustrated that memories of an ex seem to linger, but her buds help her let it go.
In the music video for the tune, which we're very pleased to premiere today, the whole band gets in on the action. Moynihan, bassist Jenna Mitchell and drummer Emily Maxwell find themselves (and their band gear) transported from a house party to a remote desert outpost. There, they encounter a lonesome alien (played by CJ Harvey, who also directed the video) whose ’50s-sci-fi-inspired costume does a solid job of representing the ways we all feel like awkward outsiders, especially in the face of the cliques and body-shaming that are especially prevalent in adolescent life. But Team DI welcomes her with open arms, and with the help of a little rock ’n' roll, she's soon slam-dancing and chugging beers like a champ. Good thing she's got a pal to hold her hair, right?
Daddy Issues doesn't have any local dates on the books right now (The Spin caught them at Spewfest 3 a couple weeks back), but you can snag a copy of Deep Dream at your favorite record store or from Infinity Cat's web store right here.
