Cream Premiere: Amy Darling Rocks On in Rock’n'Roll Woman [Fresh Tracks]

There are at least some styles and techniques in the general sphere of rock ’n' roll that don't ever really get old, and you'll get a good smattering of them on Rock’n'Roll Woman, the new EP from Amy Darling. There's a good bit of Stones-ian swagger to be found across its four tracks, and standout song "Flip the Bird" offers a solid take on the kind of country-folk-rock feel Rod Stewart & Co. achieved on "Maggie May."

"Bird," which acknowledges the toll time can take on a person (while pledging to put up a fight), represents Darling at her best. She takes a bit of a risk, trading in some of the posturing that's baked into the image of rock for the vulnerability that marks many of the finest songs, rock or otherwise.

We're very pleased to premiere the EP today, ahead of its release to other streaming platforms on Aug. 24. Check it out below, and catch Darling's release show, Sept. 5 at American Legion Post 82 in Inglewood, where you'll also be treated to sets from two other mighty-voiced performers: Emma Swift, whose great Neil Young cover you heard earlier this year, and Tennessee Muscle Candy, fronted by soul-rock shouter extraordinaire Alexis Saski.
