Someday, hopefully sooner than later, we’ll get a whisper of autumn. But while you sweat out this abnormally hot first day of October, here’s some news that’s sure to send a chill up your spine: Third Man Records has announced a pair of Halloween celebrations in honor of the Season of the Witch.
There’s a Devil’s Night show at the Detroit location (naturally) of Jack White’s label on Oct. 30. And more pertinent for Music City folks, TMR’s Nashville headquarters is hosting a related throwdown on Oct. 31.
Chattanooga rapper BbyMutha, who stands strong against stereotypical representations of womanhood and motherhood in her work, headlines both nights, alongside glam-inclined L.A. rockers Starcrawler. Detroit’s garage-y Werewolves and Austin, Texas’ hardcore-leaning Wiccans will open the Detroit show. In Nashville, we’ll see a three-band undercard, consisting of local hardcore-punk-schooled MC Kent Osborne and two garage-leaning rock bands: Florida’s Jacuzzi Boys and Illinois outfit The Heat Tape. (Fun side note for the heads out there: Soft Junk co-founder Nic Schurman is a member of The Heat Tape.)
