To say that André 3000’s flute-centric spiritual jazz record New Blue Sun inspired a lot of conversation when it landed in the fall is a front-runner for understatement of the year. But as the opening track of the Outkast legend’s record says (in its title anyway, since it’s an instrumental LP): “I swear, I Really Wanted To Make A ‘Rap’ Album But This Is Literally The Way The Wind Blew Me This Time.”
Fresh off a late-announced appearance at Big Ears over the weekend, Three Stacks is bringing the intimate live performance developed around the album to Music City. Along with Carlos Niño, Nate Mercereau, Surya Botofasina and Deantoni Parks, André 3000 will be at The Blue Room at Third Man Records on Wednesday, March 27. Tickets run $160 and go on sale in just a little while — Monday, March 25, at noon Central.
Update, May 2: André 3000's March 27 show was postponed for health reasons. However, it has been rescheduled and expanded to a run of four shows on Wednesday and Thursday, May 29 and 30, with an early show at 6 p.m. and a late show at 9 p.m. each night. Tickets go on sale 10 a.m. Friday, May 3, via Third Man's site — May 29 early, May 29 late, May 30 early, May 30 late.
