Modest Mouse and Brand New To Co-Headline Tour, Play Ascend This Summer

Brand New touring with Modest Mouse? Wait, didn't Brand New basically break up on-stage at The Ryman last year? I guess Jesse Lacey's tears were reptilian because Brand New and Modest Mouse just announced they'll be co-headling a U.S. tour this summer, which includes a stop at Ascend Amphitheater on July 19.

Seeing as how Weezer recently announced they're touring with Panic! At the Disco, we're just one more Aughts emo-branded rock band + 1990s indie-rock gods partnership away from this becoming a trend! (Maybe Built to Spill and Taking Back Sunday will join forces next?)

For this tour — which is playing big prestige venues across the country, including Red Rocks and Madison Square Garden (?!?) — the bands will take turns closing out the shows, with each band playing a full set every night. There will be no opening acts.

All of this is probably a dream come true for Brand New, who haven't been shy about their Modest Mouse fandom in the past — the band has covered MM's "Trailer Trash" during live shows (including a Seattle stop years ago, which was gutsy) and some of their songs on Daisy all-but directly lift Modest Mouse's guitar riffs. (I even referred to them as "Modest Mouse-obsessed" in a Cream post last year ... am I to thank for this weirdo partnership? Maybe!)

Tickets go on sale this Friday, Jan. 29, at noon via LiveNation.com. They're $59.99 for general admission standing pit and reserved seating and $29.99 for general admission lawn seating.

Watch Brand New singer Jesse Lacey do a solo cover of "Trailer Trash" after the jump.
