, the popular artisan deli that's been feeding folks in Riverside Village since 2008, plans to move to new quarters later this year. But they won't be moving far. Owner David Mitchell has acquired a new building a block away that will more than double the deli's space.
Currently at 1402 McGavock Pike in the revived commercial strip at the corner of McGavock and Riverside Drive (a space that has around 1,600 square feet), Mitchell Deli is moving down the street to a former upholstery shop at 1306 McGavock, next to Village Pub. When renovations are complete, the new space will offer about 3,700 square feet.
Mitchell says the deli has outgrown the original space. The kitchen is maxed out on sandwich capacity, and there are only 16 seats inside. The new place, meanwhile, will have 50 seats inside and 40 seats outdoors.
The menu won't change markedly, Mitchell says, but he's planning to tweak a few items. He hopes to add a new roster of soft drinks: Sprecher's draft sodas. In addition, he's exploring the possibility of securing licenses to serve wine and beer.
