Oh, 2015 — you have been something, haven’t you? Filled with horror and joy, highs and lows, the past 12 months have been emotionally and intellectually exhausting. But it’s also been a really good year for new Christmas music, so I guess we’re finishing out the year on the positive side of the ledger.
Leading the pack of 2015’s holiday heroes — a pack that includes Kylie Minogue and Sharon Jones — is the wonderful collab between neo-soul chanteuse India.Arie and jazz legend Joe Sample, Christmas With Friends. The album is so full of great guests — Trombone Shorty, Brandy, Michael McDonald — that it seems likely Santa will bring some special guests to the Schermerhorn just for us. Friends is a great big bundle of warm-and-fuzzies, a cozy cuddle by the fireplace on a cold night, and a holiday tradition in the making.
A portion of the ticket sales benefit the National Museum of African-American Music, so you know those warm-and-fuzzies are going to a good cause. Tickets are $40-$80 and you can get 'em here. Jonathan McReynolds opens.
