Slayer's Tom Araya at Bonnaroo 2015.
Iron your blackest shirt and start limbering up those neck muscles, Nashville. In 2016, Music City is already headed for its heaviest metal overdose in years. Not only are fast-food-themed tribute act Mac Sabbath and cult doom faves Pentagram hitting Exit/In on back-to-back nights in March, a month earlier Slayer, Testament and Carcass will reign over a former home of the Grand Ole Opry.
The last time Slayer slated a tour stop in Music City, their outing with fellow Big Four alum Megadeth was unfortunately canceled when singer/bassist Tom Araya needed back surgery. Though the band did venture this far South of Heaven for a fish-out-of-water, late-night tour-de-force set at this Summer’s Bonnaroo, the two-time Grammy-winning thrash pioneers will finally descend on Nashville proper for an ungodly bloodletting at War “Ensemble” Memorial Auditorium on Feb. 22 in support of this year’s characteristically brutal comeback album Repentless.
As if that weren’t enough, the package-tour-friendly band's bringing with them Liverpoolian grindcore veterans Carcass and fellow O.G. thrashers Testament along for support. Tickets go on sale Friday, Dec. 11, right here.
To help get in the spirit, Nashville-style, check out formerly local smoky voiced singer Natalie Prass’ jazzily reimagined tropical freakout of Slayer’s classic “Raining Blood” here. And check out Repentless' riotous, super-chill title track below.

This is McDonnell's first stint directing a music video. He directed the 2013 horror film Hatchet III, and his rich resume as a motion picture cameraman includes Avengers: Age Of Ultron, Ant-Man and The Interview. For SLAYER's "Repentless," he and the video's producer Felissa Rose pulled together a gang of actors and crew who have been part of some of the most iconic horror films ever made: Derek Mears (Predators, Friday The 13th, Tyler Mane (Halloween), Jason Trost (Hatchet III), Danny Trejo (Machete, From Dusk Till Dawn), Tony Moran (Halloween's Michael Myers, American Poltergeist), Sean Whalen (Men In Black, Halloween II), and Vernon Wells (Mad Max 2, Commando, Weird Science) all are featured inmates in the video. And if that wasn't enough, McDonnell and Rose brought in stunt coordinator Nils Allen Stewart who is known for his work on films like Planet Of The Apes, Anger Management and Daredevil.
