People hate what they can't understand. I guess that means I hate The Hobbit. At last Monday's 8 off 8th, the Lehning brothers—with help from local musicians the likes of Aaron Irons (Vermicious K'nids, Non-Coms), Joe Blankenship (Shoot the Mountain) and Matt Hungate (De Novo Dahl, Telecommunicators)—put on a live adaptation of the 1977 Rankin/Bass animated version of the Tolkien classic. I was unable to attend the recital, because I was too busy getting Labor-Day drunk and engaging in a face-punching contest with fellow Cream blogger Sean Maloney. Luckily, an 11-minute video of the performance—featuring multiple camera angles—has been uploaded to YouTube (via user adunzing, better known for co-directing Make-Out With Violence).
In the interest of full disclosure, I'll let it be known that I'm pretty good friends with just about everyone involved in this "production." Before you all jump on me for plugging my friends' artistic endeavors, keep in mind that if ANYONE in this town had put in the time to undertake something this inane and ridiculous, and posted it online, I would've in turn posted it here.
