'Funky Apartment' and Former DIY Punk Venue Glenn Danzig's House Is Available for Rent

For a couple of years right around the start of this decade, a little DIY punk venue by the name of Glenn Danzig's House was probably just about the hippest spot in town to catch a rock 'n' roll show. Serving as headquarters for indie blog-slash-record label

Nashville's Dead

— ND founder Ben Todd,

who died in February of last year at the age of 24

, lived there with local rocker Cy Barkley — the living quarters/concert space played host to local and national talent including (but certainly not limited to) PUJOL, Diarrhea Planet, Jacuzzi Boys, Turbo Fruits, Natural Child, Peach Kelli Pop and dozens more — The Spin caught

shows there back in the day, as a matter of fact. Danzig's was even featured in

a Tim Herrington-hosted Vice tour of Nashville

(Herrington shoved an empty beer box onto my head at that show) and turned up in

Nylon's 2010 profile of Music City

. We're talking glorious pre-"It City" days here, folks. A scene that set the stage for Nashville's current cachet, before

the Nashville's Dead crew moved out of the place in 2011

.

So, are the current owners of Glenn Danzig's House aware of the site's street cred? Hard to say. The building recently popped up in a Craiglist ad labeled "Funky apartment, single family home -Will go FAST! Home or Home Office (South Nashville)." The posting mentions that the house "was a corner market years ago, a small police precinct, and after that a small office building." But it fails to mention that the spot also played host to a revolving cast of sweaty, crowd-surfing, fist-pumping, ceiling-hanging teens and 20-somethings for about two years, give or take. The current owner is asking $1,400 per month in rent, so maybe he or she is worried that awareness of the building's former up-the-punx status will bring down its property value; although, if you ask me, it does just the opposite.

Hat-tip to local punk dad Whit Smith (pictured as the King of Freakin' Weekend 2011 here) for posting the link on FB (Smith tells the Cream he found it via Nico Arambatzis). Follow me after the jump to see the full text of the Craigslist ad, plus some old-school photos from Danzig's heyday.

By the way, for those who still haven't caught up: No, Glenn Danzig himself never lived in or owned Glenn Danzig's House.
