that legendary bluesman Dr. John has announced a forthcoming album by the name of Locked Down. Locked Down — not to be confused with either of the highly addictive time-suck prison-doc series, Lockdown and Locked Up — was recorded by Black Keys frontman Dan Auerbach here in Nashville at Auerbach's Easy Eye Sound. The Doc-’Bach pairing isn't too much of a shocker, of course, considering that Auerbach participated with senior 'Jammer Dr. John at last year's annual Bonnaroo Superjam. Anyway, the album is due out April 3 via Nonesuch — thus making the Keys and Doc labelmates.
I could be lazy and block-quote the Consequence post on the matter at hand, or I could carefully and eloquently reword the information, thus eliminating the need to copy and paste. Guess which I'm going to do.
Auerbach first proposed the partnership in late 2010, insisting he’d produce “the best record [Dr. John] made in a long time,” according to an issued press release. Last year, they hallmarked their friendship with a dynamite Superjam at Bonnaroo. Auerbach states in the same release: “Mac inspired me every single day we were in the studio together: musically, spiritually, cosmically … something special seemed to be happening and everyone involved could sense it. For my money, Mac’s one of the greatest who ever was and who ever will be … I’m so honored to have had this opportunity to work with him.”
Dr. John also goes by Mac, in case you weren't aware. He's a man of many nicknames. Having toured Easy Eye personally, I can say that the place is packed to the gills with pretty remarkable vintage gear, so I imagine that Locked Down will have the warm sounds ... locked down. Anyway, you can see
a couple of photos of Easy Eyefrom when we shot the place for my cover story on the Keys last year, and you can watch a clip of Dr. John and Auerbach Superjammin' it at the 'Roo after the jump.
