Emo Week Is Upon Us! A Day to Remember, mewithoutYou, Taking Back Sunday and More

Fathers, hide your daughters: Emo Week is upon us. Through some strange confluence of events (Mayan prophecy?), Nashville will be besieged by emo band after emo band, come for our star tattoos, studded accessories and strategic eyeliner reserves. Oh, the humanity. Emo Week commences Monday with A Day to Remember at Bridgestone Arena, as they bring their pop-metalcore scene to disaffected teens with 50 bones to spare. For half that, you can reminisce with 20-somethings about the casual misogyny of Taking Back Sunday, who appear at Cannery Ballroom on Tuesday. We’ll pause while you try to remove “Cute Without the ‘E’ ” from your head. Wednesday brings two-fisted nostalgia in the form of the actually pretty great Appleseed Cast — the one band of the bunch that touches the wellspring of mid-’90s Midwestern emo — and mewithoutYou, celebrating the 10-year anniversary of philosophical fan-favorite LP Catch for Us the Foxes, also at Cannery. If you’re gonna pick one of these shows, pick the mewithoutYou joint. At least there, you’ll hear some Yeats references and not whatever Taking Back Sunday’s doing now. Or wait until next week for Brand New at War Memorial. Just be sure to avoid Hot Topic for the rest of the week/your life.
