"Please Don't Forget Me" began when I was working on a new finger picking pattern. A lot of times when I learn new chords or new techniques it inspires me to write and gives me the freedom to do something new. -Michelle

So while

Lake Fever is no longer on Music Row

— and new Lake Fever Sessions as we know them are not currently in production — the Lake Fever fellas apparently still have some footage in the can.

Like this

! It's a sesh shot in late 2009 and featuring a band by the name of Destry, who I was unfamiliar with until now.

Turns out Destry have some Nashville roots, and are made up of former and current members of Straylight Run, Taking Back Sunday (+), Cassino and Northstar. Honestly, I really thought I'd never again reference three out of those four bands. Just goes to show you that — through Americana and various other folk offshoot genres — emo artists can find rebirth. It's still rooted in earnestness. It still adheres to some easily adoptable genre-wide conventions (in this case, acoustic instrumentation, finger-picking, drummers with brushes, a very specific breed of wistfulness, et cetera). Unlike emo, however, Americana/folk is much more frequently enjoyable. So enjoy!
