Last year, after some delays, local rapper Chancellor Warhol released Paris Is Burning, which contributor Itoro Udoko referred to as "a meticulous and balanced record" that "shows Warhol's growing understand of pop." Amid Burning's tracks is the brooding and minimal "Nothing," which features vocals from local R&B crooner William Wolf. Today, Warhol dropped his video for "Nothing," and you can watch it after the jump.
The video, which was directed by Casey Culver, heavily features a young Nashvillian fashion blogger whose surname you might recognize. Brandi Cyrus — yes, of the Achy-Breaky, Wrecking-Ball Cyruses — appears throughout the video in a bathtub, wearing angel wings and generally looking striking and pensive. The video is grandly shot, and it's particularly reminiscent of The Roots' classic video for "The Seed (2.0)," insofar as both vids feature an adorable little girl marching around a mansion unattended. There are also shades of (or perhaps homages to?) Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey and Albert Lamorisse's The Red Balloon. Eye-grabbing stuff.
