Remember that whole hot prob at Buzzfest where it rained and everyone went nuts and the show got canceled? Among other acts, '90s grunge holdovers Alice "AND" Chains never took the stage. But now they've announced North American tour dates that kick off Feb. 2, and Nashville's on the itinerary for March 1 at Municipal Auditorium. Any word on whether this is the make-up show that Buzzfest ticket holders will be admitted to for free? There's no info on the Buzzfest site, which still has the same old hold-onto-your-tickets message. But a quick phone call to operations manager Troy Hanson—who graciously spoke to me in spite of our consistently mocking tone toward the station, active rock and its fans—says this IS the make-up date where fans will be able to see AIC. Mudvayne fans are SOL, though. According to Hanson, the band "chose not to participate" in the make-up event, so now I feel like maybe all those people who threw beer bottles at them were kinda justified.
Anyway, starting tomorrow—that's Friday, Nov. 20—through Dec. 20, anyone with a ticket stub from Buzzfest can go down to the Municipal's box office and switch the ticket out for a ticket to Alice in Chains' March 1 show. And anyone who lost or tossed their ticket? "In some way, shape or form, [they need to] contact the radio station with their story," says Hanson. "Pretty much about 80-85% bought their tickets through credit cards so we can trace them through Ticketmaster."
Also, he had a message for Adam Gold: "Ask Adam Gold if it's lonely hanging out with 10 other hip people." We ask ourselves that every day, Troy. Every day.
