Any of you guys been to CMJ? I went last year. It was ... let's say overwhelming. Surely no dearth of bands you've never heard of vying for your attention. Well, it looks like the boys of Heypenny — who have been working on an album, are "nearly done with mixing and will probably release it early next year" — are taking a bite out of the Big Apple next week with two different CMJ showcases: 9:15 p.m., Oct. 20, at Bar Matchless, and late night Oct. 22 at Crash Mansion.
You can see the full and daunting list of bands scheduled to play CMJ here. There are over 1,200 artists this year, and that list is a pretty amazing place to start if you want to know the way tides are turning band-name-wise. (Seven of them begin with either "Gold" or "Golden.") Anyhow, Heypenny won't be the only Volunteer State reps at the fest. The following Tennesseans shall also be there: The Protomen, Tristen, The Non-Commissioned Officers, PUJOL, Heavy Cream, Bad Cop, The Kopecky Family Band and Royal Bangs (Knoxville). If you're around town, pop in and show the locals some support. View the full CMJ schedule here — though you'll have to log in via your Twitter, Facebook, Gmail, Yahoo, Windows Live or AOL (LOL) account.
