“Dinner Party” is the best episode of The Office. Hands down. Without question. It’s not even close. From the very beginning, it’s nearly unwatchable while also wholly mesmerizing — the way Steve Carell’s Michael Scott tricks John Krasinski’s Jim into agreeing to come over to his house for a double date with Jan and Pam; the way Jan pops out of the kitchen to announce dinner still has hours left to cook as soon as the couple arrives. The tension is perfect, and the hit sitcom’s Season 4 episode finally gives us not just a glimpse into Michael and Jan’s confusing romantic relationship, but a full-on gawk. A front-row seat to the train wreck. Shouts Michael: “Snip, snap! Snip, snap! Snip, snap! You have no idea the physical toll that three vasectomies have on a person!” To see this fine episode of television play out live, performed by a cast of local comedians and actors? Well, it could go one of two ways: It could be goddamn hilarious, nailing every awkward, cringe-inducing moment. Or it too could be a train wreck, which would also be fitting! Either way, you can’t lose. The “Dinner Party” live performance is directed by M.K. Gannon, local comedian and host of the Crying Laughing comedy showcase, and will feature actress Lexi Nimmo as Jan (the true star of the episode) along with Clark Davis as Michael, Will Lietz as Jim, Cortney Warner as Pam and Caroline Moore as Dwight. You should go, babe. MEGAN SELING
