Restaurateur David Mitchell says his new project in Riverside Village,
Rudie's Seafood, Sausage and Taproom, will open its doors at 4 p.m. today.
Mitchell is known for the popular Mitchell Delicatessen. In fact, Rudie's is taking over the space Mitchell Deli vacated when it moved to bigger digs down the block earlier this year.
Rudie's is bigger than the old deli, though; Mitchell also took over the next-door space formerly held by Sip Coffee. With a bar offering craft beer and cocktails, along with booths and other new seating, Rudie's can seat 61 people inside and an additional 55 on the back patio when the weather is good.
Mitchell Deli veteran Scott Edsall is Rudie's general manager and runs the kitchen. The team has been testing Rudie's recipes over at the deli for months. Sausages and other meats are prepared in house. A wood-fired oven has been installed at the new restaurant.
Rudie's also focuses on seafood dishes, including raw oysters. It features a small seafood market where they sell fresh shellfish along with some wild-caught salmon and halibut fillets that Mitchell gets from a fisherman in Alaska.
Mitchell and Edsall are gearing up carefully, so the menu and market selections are limited at first. They plan to operate today and this Saturday and Sunday from 4 to 10 p.m. Hours starting next week will be 4 to 10 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
Rudie's Seafood, Sausage and Taproom is located at 1402 McGavock Pike in Riverside Village in East Nashville.
