Germantown Street Festival and Oktoberfest
When: Sat., Oct. 8, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
Nashville will be treated to not one but two tributes to the world-famous Bavarian beer festival, and fortunately for us, they take place side by side. The Germantown Street Festival features 17 musical acts on three different stages, including everyone from Germantown local Heath Forbes to ’80s cover band The Spazmatics and Billboard-topping artist Shelly Fairchild. Oktoberfest will have four musical stages and features performances by Music City Swing, Die Musik Meisters and many others as well as polka dancing. Parents can kick back in the beer garden while the kids roam throughout Funland, where there will be clowns, face painting and pony rides.
Both festivals will feature enough food, German and otherwise, to feed a small army. And best of all, they’re both free of charge. Who knows? Maybe the festivities will inspire some Nashvillians to go global next year and visit the original festival in Germany — which lasts for more than two weeks.
