The Purity Miss Martha’s Ice Cream Crankin’ is one of the most deliciously spectacular events of the summer. Expect some 500 gallons of ice cream to be available for tasting this Sunday, June 13, at First Presbyterian Church on Franklin Pike.
A panel of judges has the awesome duty of tasting and selecting the Best of Show. The winning flavor will become the next star in Purity Dairies' ice cream lineup.
This year, the judges are led by current Miss Tennessee, Tucker Nichol Perry. The Belmont University student was a Top 10 finisher in the 2010 Miss USA Pageant.
Other judges include Susan Williams, last year’s Crankin’ winner (her masterpiece was Raspberry Chocolate Truffle); chef Jamie Watson of the Viking Cooking School in Franklin; Alan Coverstone, who oversees charter schools for Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools; and Heather Ezell, a member of Purity's founding family.
Last year, organizers decided to move the Crankin' to June instead of August, and our own Carrington Fox proclaimed the weather delightful.
Tickets are $10 in advance ($13 at gate) $8 for children ($10 at gate) and free for children 2 and under. The proceeds benefit the good works of the Martha O'Bryan Center.
