Enjoy Beer + Balls + Whiskey + Donuts This Weekend

Apparently, last month's ampersand is now this month's plus sign, as two unlikely pairings come together for your drinking and dining entertainment this weekend. The first event is locally based and has a fundraising component, while the second is the Nashville stop of a national Whiskey + Donuts festival tour.

Beers + Balls is the launch party for a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for a new food cart for one of Nashville's latest entrepreneurial food ventures, Y'alls Balls. The sausage ball-focused business is the brainchild of Courtney Webb, who you might recognize as the proprietor of East Nashville's hip Hey Rooster General Store. Her goal is to raise $12,600 over the next 30 days to purchase a meatball-making machine and a bicycle food cart. She'll also use some of the money to research on the best frozen shipping practices for the product. Like most Kickstarter projects, individuals who choose to donate will receive rewards on a sliding scale based on the amount pledged. Some of the premiums include sausage balls (natch), T-shirts and tickets to the Y’alls Ball Nov. 13.

Sunday's event will be held at Jackalope Brewery this Sunday, Sept. 6, starting at 2 p.m. and running until 6. It is being billed as "Drunch," which day drinkers will recognize as a portmanteau of "drunk" and "brunch" (which, come to think of it, is itself a portmanteau word). Even if you can't make it this Sunday, Webb and Jackalope will be partnering for Beers + Balls each Sunday in September, which sounds a lot more attractive than watching the Titans play. Webb is quite excited about the prospects of her new fledgling business and describes her feelings with the sort of sense of humor you'd expect from somebody who named her business Yall's Balls. “I finally have an answer for people asking, ‘What's happening with Y’alls Balls?’ she jokes. "I can now say for sure that we're rolling!”

If you like your doughy treats sweet instead of savory and your drinks stronger than beer, then perhaps this afternoon's Whiskey + Donuts is more up your alley. From 4 to 9 p.m. today at Deavor (305 Jefferson St. #125), you can enjoy unlimited sampling of some of Nashville's best donuts paired with from whiskeys. Because, why not?

The bakers include Biscuit Love, Shipley's, Donut Den, Donut Place, Gourmet Donuts and Peace, Love Little Donuts while the spirits will come from Nelson’s Green Brier Distillery, Jack Daniel’s Distillery, George Dickel Distillery, Corsair Distillery, Prichard’s Distillery, Beechtree Distillery, Collier & McKeel and Tenn South Distilling. They'll also be creating live art and auctioning off donut-themed artworks.

The event website describes the party as "an amazing networking event and a great way to meet fun and active singles too," so if you're looking for that special someone who loves Corsair and crullers as much as you do, hurry to the ticketing page and get on the list.
