I am not a juice person. If I’m spending $6 on a beverage, it better have vodka in it. But the Vampire Juice at Tower Market and Deli got me. A blood-red mix of orange, apple, beet, celery, carrot and ginger, it’s earthy, sweet, spicy and addictive. Plus seeing all that produce go into the blender actually made me feel healthier, even if drinking it made me feel dangerously hipster-adjacent.
But the real reasons I go to Tower are much more nefarious, and they start with the breakfast burrito. Stuffed with chorizo, eggs, potatoes, cheese, peppers and onions, it’s a full pound of salty, gooey, Mexican-spiced goodness for $6.50. It will easily feed two if you’re not looking to get comatose before work. For fun, ask first for some of their Sabi sauce to go with it: Sabi is a creamy, piquant horseradish-tomato sauce, and if ranch dressing doesn’t survive the surely imminent apocalypse, Sabi sauce can step right in.
