Yee-Haw Brewing Co., a 2-year-old brewery out of Johnson City, Tenn., is aiming to get a foothold in the neighborhood that is shaping up as Nashville's brewery district. The company, known particularly for its award-winning dark lager Yee-Haw Dunkel, is leasing space at 423 Sixth Ave. S., where it will open a small taproom.
“SoBro is a great location,” Yee-Haw founder Joe Baker tells my Nashville Post colleague William Williams. “There are so many interesting people and businesses already there. We are excited to be a part of that growth and to offer a space that both locals and visitors can come to enjoy a good beer.”
Yee-Haw will keep its main operations in East Tennessee. Baker says he expects to brew some Yee-Haw beer at the 12,000-square-foot Nashville taproom, and is considering guest taps for other local and regional beers. Its opening is tentatively planned for this fall.
The Yee-Haw taproom will be located within what some are calling the Nashville Brewery District. Five breweries — Czann's, New Heights, Jackalope, Tennessee Brew Works and Yazoo — are within blocks of the new taproom.
Terms of the lease with property owner Shelby Smith are not being disclosed. The building is part of a complex formerly held by Madison Smith Naturally auto dealership. Smith tells the Post he is seeking like-minded businesses (particularly entertainment and food/beverage focused) as tenants for the rest of the six-building complex.
Yee-Haw opened in July 2015, and its brews became available in Nashville bars and stores in June 2016. The Yee-Haw Dunkel was awarded a bronze award in the European-Style Dark/Muenchner Dunkel beer-style category at the 2016 World Beer Cup.
